ALAS Founding Board of Directors continues to work tirelessly to pursue this vision in what has become a communal space of support, honoring the cultural strengths that thrive in our Latino coastal community. Position Summary
The counselor/therapist at ALAS will serve in the Mobile Behavioral Health Services program at ALAS providing culturally responsive mental health services to farmworkers and their families in the coastal community. Therapy services will be provided via individual, group, and/or family sessions either in the ALAS office, in the mobile ALAS unit, or in client’s home. The role involves working closely with other departments at ALAS including the farmworker department, social services, arts department, research department and education department. Given the needs of the community, this full-time position requires afternoon and evening availability as well as an occasional weekend. This full-time position is 80% in-person (32 hours) and 20% remote (8 hours).
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
• Provide culturally-responsive and evidence-based individual, group, or family therapy, counseling, and supportive services to ALAS clients
• Conduct intake assessments for new clients
• Provide appropriate referrals to ALAS clients within or outside the organization • Provide ongoing follow-up care for all clients assigned to caseload
• Collaborate with all of the relevant ALAS departments to ensure appropriate level of support is provided efficiently
• Adhere to documentation, policies, & procedures set forth by our funding mechanisms. • Complete and maintain timely documentation of client interactions.
• Participate in the weekly mental health clinical and didactic meetings.
• Conduct phone screenings as assigned for prospective new or returning mental health clients at ALAS.
• Support the ALAS drop-in mental health clinic, as assigned.
• Participate in community-wide events set forth by ALAS.
• Provide outreach to and assess needs of the community
Other duties may be assigned.
Required Skills
• Fluency in English and Spanish: clinical interventions, oral, and written
• Knowledge of culturally responsive and evidence-based interventions

• Active listening skills to establish effective working relationships with current and prospective clients

Qualifications
• Master’s degree in counseling, clinical psychology, social work or related field. • Licensed or license eligible to practice behavioral health in the state of California as required by the California Board of Psychology or California Board of Behavioral Sciences. • Experience working with Latino populations in the behavioral health field
• Bilingual English and Spanish
• Understanding challenges faced by the Latino community.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Building Trust & Supporting Communities with Boots on the Ground
● Build authentic relationships with farmworker families, building trust through consistent outreach and genuine engagement.
● Visit farms to listen, understand, and assess needs, ensuring every voice is heard and every challenge is acknowledged.
● Provide personalized care, guiding individuals and families to essential health, housing, legal, and social services.
● Stand as a bridge between farmworkers and other service providers, fiercely advocating for their rights, dignity, and well-being.
Coordinating Care and Support
● Connect farmworkers to vital medical, legal, housing, and social services tailored to meet their unique needs. Bringing vital health and mental health workshops to our community. ● Offer transportation and care—provide reassurance, compassion, and a steady hand as clients navigate systems and appointments.
● Partner with local organizations, nonprofits, and government agencies to create a network of care and opportunity for farmworker communities.
● Serve as a guide and advocate, helping people overcome barriers and access the resources they need to improve their lives.
Community Outreach & Advocacy
● Collaborate with the Farmworker and Essential Worker Program Director to design bold, creative strategies that connect and inspire.
● Be the voice of ALAS at community meetings, public forums, and advocacy events, shining a light on the issues farmworkers face and the solutions they deserve. ● Join forces with advocacy committees to champion farmworker rights and ensure every family is seen, valued, and supported.
Data Collection & Storytelling
● Capture the heart of our work by tracking program goals and outcomes, using data to tell a powerful story about our impact.
● Keep a detailed record of farm visits, client interactions, and services provided to ensure every story is heard and every need is met.
● Safeguard the trust of our community by maintaining accurate, confidential records while following all reporting guidelines.
Required Skills
● Education: Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Public Health, Human Services, or a related field (or equivalent experience in case management and community outreach).
● Language: Bilingual and bi-cultural. Spanish proficiency is highly preferred.
Experience:
● Minimum 3+ years of experience in case management, social services, or community outreach.
● Experience working with farmworker, immigrant, and/or low-income communities.
● Knowledge of public benefits, health systems, and community resources.
● Communication: Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
● Cultural Competence and Care: Deep understanding of the challenges faced by farmworkers and a commitment to loving care.
● Technical Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Google Suite, and data tracking platforms.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Community Engagement & Programming
● Cultivate authentic relationships with farmworkers, immigrant families, and underserved community members.
● Conduct outreach to raise awareness about the Equity Express Bus and its services. ● Participate in community events, ensuring the bus is a trusted, welcoming presence. ● Build relationships and work in partnership with other ALAS staff, local organizations, nonprofits, and government agencies to enhance the bus’s reach and impact.
● Work with healthcare providers, advocacy groups, and social services to bring essential care to the community.
Managing Operations & Innovation
● Coordinate scheduling, routes, and services with the contracted transportation company, ensuring that everyone is safe and prepared for excellence.
● Develop and implement creative programming tailored to community needs, from health services to cultural arts workshops.
● Collaborate with ALAS leadership and partners to optimize routes and identify service gaps.
● Manage other day to day issues and find creative solutions.
Data & Storytelling
● Track program goals, outcomes, and impact through detailed reporting. ● Capture and share the stories of those served by the Equity Express to inspire community support and advocacy.
● Provide photos and updates for social media, expanding the program’s visibility. ● Support the fundraising and comms teams in amplifying our work and impact.
Required Skills
● A background in and passion for community outreach, program coordination, or social services (3+ years preferred).
● Track record in leading with integrity, humility, and respect for the communities we serve.
● Spanish proficiency is highly preferred.
● Cultural competence: meaningful experience working with farmworkers, immigrant communities, or underserved populations, with a heart-centered approach. ● Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage schedules, logistics, and collaborate effectively with multiple stakeholders.
