Dr. Belinda Hernandez-Arriaga
La Dra. Belinda Hernández-Arriaga es la fundadora y directora ejecutiva de ALAS. Tiene un Doctorado en Educación y una Maestría en Trabajo Social. Es una trabajadora social clínica autorizada y registrada en la Junta de Ciencias del Comportamiento de California. Es profesora asistente en la Universidad de San Francisco y enseña en el programa de Consejería Psicológica. Su enfoque de experiencia es la salud mental con la comunidad latina, comprender el trauma en niños y familias inmigrantes y trabajar con la salud mental de los trabajadores agrícolas.Había lanzado importantes iniciativas comunitarias de salud mental en ALAS, incluida una influyente defensa del cambio sistémico en la atención y el acceso a nuestro programa Coastside. Belinda fue nombrada miembro del Salón de la Fama de las Mujeres del Condado de San Mateo y nombrada Comisionada de Artes del Distrito 3 del Condado de San Mateo. Stella Dominguez

Stella Dominguez, a native of San Jose, California, began her career in 1977 at the Santa Clara County Juvenile Detention Center. Over the span of nearly three decades, she rose to the position of Supervising Group Counselor before retiring in 2006. During her tenure, Stella implemented and developed several programs, including the Multi-Agency Assessment Center. She was a dedicated member of the California Gang Investigators Association and the Latino Peace Officers Association. In her retirement, Stella remained actively engaged in community service, working with the 7 Trees Neighborhood Group to enhance services in an under-resourced neighborhood. In 2011, she embarked on a new chapter by working with Dr. Belinda Arriaga to establish the nonprofit ALAS Ayudando Latinos A Soñar, where she serves as a board member. Outside of her professional pursuits, Stella finds joy in dancing, appreciating music, following baseball, and cherishing quality time with friends and family. Since relocating to Central Valley, she continues her spirit of volunteerism by contributing her time and efforts to Arte América, Central California Food Bank, and Beautify Fresno. Stella's commitment to community empowerment and dedication to making a positive impact shine through in all aspects of her life.

Ernesto J. Valladares Bonilla is the Finance Supervisor at ALAS, where he oversees financial operations and ensures the accuracy of the organization’s finances. He was born in El Salvador and moved to the United States when he was 10 years old. Ernesto attended the College of San Mateo before transferring to San Francisco State University, where he graduated in 2023 as a first-generation college graduate. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Business with a concentration in Finance. In his free time, Ernesto enjoys outdoor activities, watching movies, and going to the gym.

Veronica brings over 15 years of experience in the field of Latino Advocacy. She is one of our ALAS Founding Board members with experience in Strategic Development and relationship building. She has lent her voice to support and uplift the Latino narrative in the Bay Area. With a robust background in Nonprofit Leadership and Fundraising, she will continue to contribute to ALAS's initiatives in advancing Latino/a culture, community wellness, and social justice. Her deep commitment has been pivotal in expanding ALAS's reach through community outreach and advocacy efforts. She is married to Media Executive Raul Rodriguez and is a mother to 3 young men. Two are currently studying at USC School of Business and the third transfering to study Pre-med in the Fall.

Juan Carlos Ruiz Malagon, MS, MA

Juan Carlos Ruiz Malagon is a second-year Doctoral student in Public Health at the University of California, Irvine. His research interests lie in structural determinants of health, health injustices among minoritized populations, and Latiné marginalized communities. He completed his BA at the University of California, Davis, MA in Global Health at the University of California, San Diego, and MS in Community Health at Stanford University. Juan has been awarded multiple fellowships and scholarships to support his doctoral education including the Northgate Gonzalez Scholarship, an H&H Lee Charitable Foundation Scholarship, a Health Equity Research Summer Scholarship, a Graduate Division Fellowship, an Environmental and Health Equity Fellowship, and an NSF-funded fellowship called the Climate Justice Initiative. Currently, he is working on projects looking at the impact of gun violence on farmworker well-being, ways to reduce workplace violence for farmworkers, the social outcomes of immigration trauma on Latiné immigrants, and the impact criminalization has on HIV preventative care for transgender Latinas. While at Stanford University, Juan was a Health Justice Programs Fellow through the Latino Coalition for a Healthy California and has continued to serve as a research fellow for the UCLA Latino Politics and Policy Institute. Before graduate school, Juan volunteered at a UC Davis student-run free clinic called Clinica Tepati, providing primary healthcare to underserved and uninsured populations. Their professional and personal experiences drive them to work towards equitable healthcare systems through research and community engagement. Juan Carlos immigrated to the U.S. early and identifies as a first-generation and low-income college graduate. They are the first person in their family to attend college and obtain graduate degrees.

Cristhian Landaverde is of Salvadoran origin and a social work specialist with a diverse age range. In El Salvador, Cristhian also did health delivery of micronutrients, advocating for all to achieve a well-off health goal. He moved to Half Moon Bay twelve years ago. He has continued supporting and growing his social service skills in the small community of Half Moon Bay. Now that Cristhian is an employee with ALAS, he is eager to help the community with kindness, empathy, and advocacy.

David A. Martínez, Ph.D.

Dr. David A. Martínez earned his Ph.D. in Clinical Health Psychology from the University of Missouri-Kansas City in 2013. He completed his clinical internship in behavioral medicine at the Palo Alto VA Healthcare System and his post-doctoral fellowship at Brown University’s School of Medicine. He has been a professor of clinical psychology at the University of San Francisco since 2014. Dr. Martínez is the son of Mexican parents who immigrated to Salinas, California, where he was born. Dr. Martínez spent his childhood years in Michoacan, Mexico and returned to the U.S. with his mother and siblings when he was an adolescent. Upon his return to the U.S., Dr. Martinez only spoke Spanish and encountered many challenges trying to adjust and trying to navigate the educational and healthcare systems in the U.S. These experiences have informed his passion, which is to increase equitable and quality access to healthcare for the Latino community in the U.S. Dr. Martínez has extensive experience employing community based approaches to increase access to HIV testing, mental health services, and healthcare services for marginalized populations. He also has extensive experience in training health professionals, including mental health and medical practitioners in the U.S. and Peru. As the Director of Mental Health at ALAS, Dr. Martínez aims to strengthen the equitable access to mental health services for everyone in the ALAS community. Collaborating with the leadership, staff, and community at ALAS will be an essential component of this goal. He is also looking forward to collaboratively identifying innovative ways to deliver essential mental health services to the ALAS community.
Winsor Kinkade, LCSW

Winsor is driven by a passion for community mental health, viewing it as a tool for empowerment, socio-political resistance, and holistic community care. Their dedication to anti-oppressive and anti-colonial practices shapes their approach to therapy, emphasizing art-centered techniques as a means of healing and collective liberation. With a focus on the Latinx farmworker community, Winsor explores the intersection of art, resistance, and post-traumatic mental health, fostering collective imagination and resilience. Their goal is to create radical systems of mental health support that dismantle systematic marginalization and nourish spirituality and creativity for healing and empowerment. In addition to their clinical work, Winsor contributes to academia as an Adjunct Professor at the University of San Francisco in the Graduate Department of Psychology. As a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, Winsor earned their Master’s Degree at San José State University, specializing in Mental Health in Latinx Communities. They hold a Bachelor’s Degree in Communication and Fine Art from the University of San Francisco. Currently pursuing a PhD in Depth Psychology with a focus on Liberation, Community, Indigenous, and Eco-Psychologies, Winsor continues to deepen their understanding of transformative mental health systems. In their free time, Winsor enjoys painting, sharing meals with family, and getting lost outdoors with their dog, Oscar.
Adolfo Villa

Adolfo is a mental health clinician at ALAS. Adolfo is proud to work with the Latine and the farmworker community. Adolfo has experience working in the Equiety Express Bus, bringing therapy to places where it was not accessible before, and facilitating therapeutic groups. Adolfo has a passion for helping and empowering people to find their internal voice and confidence. Adolfo takes pride in building a trusting therapeutic relationship with his clients by creating a safe space for his clients to be themselves, feel accepted, feel heard and understood and meeting his clients where they are. Adolfo received his B.S in Criminal Justice from California State University, East Bay and earned his Masters in Counseling Psychology, with a concentration in Marriage and Family Therapy from the University of San Francisco. Adolfo enjoys activities in nature, such as camping and hiking and enjoys listening to music and reading. Adolfo also enjoys playing soccer and was part of the soccer team at De Anza College and California State University, East Bay.

Dr. Rafael Padilla holds a Bachelors degree in developmental psychology, a masters in Marriage and Family Counseling and a doctorate in Clinical Psychology. He is the Mental Health Supervisor overseeing the clinicians who provide direct care to the community. Dr. Padilla was born in Guadalajara, Mexico. He is the first in his family to graduate from college. His passion is in community advocacy, ensuring all individuals are provided with competent and respectful care. His expertise is in collaborating with the legal system. He regularly advocates for the undocumented by providing mental health evaluations that lead to a hardship waiver request. It is his privilege to work for ALAS and serve the coastal community of Half Moon Bay.

Sofia G. Solorzano Flores identifies as a Mexican Latina raised in the Bay Area. She graduated from the University of San Francisco with a Master’s Degree in Counseling Psychology. Sofia is a Licensed with the Board of Behavioral Sciences practicing as a Marriage and Family Therapist and Professional Clinical Counselor.
Wendy Rubio

Wendy is a Clinician in the ALAS Mental Health Team. She is a San Francisco native and the daughter of immigrants from El Salvador and Guatemala. Wendy's educational background is in Psychology. She graduated from Kalamazoo College with a B.A in Psychology and Religious Studies. She completed her master’s from the University of San Francisco, with an M.A. in Counseling Psychology and a concentration in Marriage and Family Therapy. Wendy has experience working with the Latine, undocumented, and immigrant families and youth. At ALAS, she has been part of the Equity Express Bus Team and has worked with community and farmworker clients in individual and group therapy. She deeply cares about the mental health and well-being of Latine families. She has seen how the Latine community and other communities of color have historically been excluded from mental health services. Wendy is happy to be part of a team and organization that is actively working on making a change in the mental health industry by providing access to mental health services to the community. She is ecstatic to be working in ALAS with the Half Moon Bay community!
Yelenna Pleitez

Yelenna is a proud San Francisco native and second-generation Latina Americana who has worked with a diverse client population in a variety of clinical settings through-out the Bay Area. She graduated from the University of San Francisco with a Masters degree in Marriage and Family Therapy and completed her traineeship year as an Integrative Hospital Therapist at CPMC Mission Bernal Campus - where she specialized in inpatient psychotherapy services for older adults. Yelenna is a bilingual psychotherapist committed to making psychotherapy more accessible to those who have been traditionally underrepresented in mental health services by providing therapy in a culturally responsive manner. She believes that mental health therapy cannot be separated from social justice. As a proud latina daughter of immigrants, she wholeheartedly understands the importance in honoring and holding space for cultural roots and collective healing in therapy. Her most recent work as a Mental Health Clinician at ALAS, involves direct client therapy as well as facilitating community workshops and a farmworkers women’s group. She envisions the next level of her professional training to involve continuing her journey as a mental health advocate for communities to receive the mental health support they need to go from surviving to thriving in their daily lives.

As a passionate photographer, storyteller, and coach-- she’s dedicated to helping others see their own magic. An immigrant from Russia, Masha's perspective is deeply shaped by her lived experience, her time in the Peace Corps, and her work as a community organizer on Chicago's South Side.

I hold an associate's degree in Business, an associate's degree in Child Development, and a bachelor's degree in Psychology. I am a proud parent of four children. In my free time, I enjoy engaging in various hobbies, including crafts, painting, hiking, biking, and playing tennis. My passion for my children, outdoor activities and creative pursuits keeps me active and inspired. Professionally, I have experience working for a non-profit organization, where I coordinated a program focused on teaching parents the importance of reading to their children. This role allowed me to combine my love for education and community service, making a positive impact on families and their literacy practices. I am excited to continue my engagement in the non-profit sector and am happy to join ALAS to help coordinate the tutoring program for children from kindergarten to high school.

Juana Ruano

Juana Ruano-López is an immigrant from Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico. She has lived in the HMB area for 30 years. Juana is married and has two children, one aged 28 and the other 17. She works at ALAS as a counselor for the elderly, visiting homes (Corazones de Oro). Juana feels very happy in her job, bringing joy and compassion to those in need, as they are often the most forgotten. She continues to learn every day to provide excellent service, which is beneficial for everyone’s mental health, and this makes her feel fulfilled. In her free time, Juana enjoys walking along the beach, breathing in the fresh air, and appreciating nature, as she believes people often forget how beautiful it is. She invites everyone to enjoy each moment of life, recognizing that it is good for both physical and mental health. Juana has a personal motto that she loves to share: "We are all one world and one heart."

Pat Carbullido is the Operations Associate at ALAS. Born and raised on the Peninsula, Pat previously served as the Executive Director at the Daly City Youth Health Center. With a strong dedication to supporting non-profits, Pat is particularly drawn to ALAS's mission of serving the Latino coastside community. A passion for community service inspired Pat to join the organization. Outside of work, Pat enjoys playing and watching sports, as well as hiking the many trails in the Bay Area. Spending time with family and friends is also a significant part of Pat's life.

Joel is passionate about ensuring that all people are presented with the accessible opportunities and guidance they need to be successful. He has worked on a range of issues including foreclosure and homelessness prevention, anti-predatory lending, small business development, financial literacy, youth mentorship, and tech education. My name is Cecilia Aguila. I was born in Las Margaritas Jalisco, Mexico in 1972. I come from a family of six and I am the third oldest. I went to Cristobal Colon school and graduated as a receptionist in 1990. I Arrived to the United States in 1995. I am married and I have two daughters. My current job is cleaning houses and also I have been working with ALAS for two years.I am the coordinator of the Senior Citizen group where I have the opportunity to grow and live with them. I am very sociable and I like to sing, dance and do arts and crafts. I am very grateful to ALAS for giving me this opportunity to work with them, and also because I like to serve the community.

Simultaneously, at SVL, I don't just contribute insightful biographical articles but also lead the SVL Collegiate Cultura Ambassadors Program. Rae Abileah (she/her) is a project coordinator at ALAS, facilitator, community advocate, author, and ordained faith leader. For over twenty years she’s worked with environmental and social impact organizations and movements, from volunteer to executive director. At ALAS, Rae supports Bienestar Comunitario, a multi-year county-wide community assessment and implementation project housed at ALAS and funded by Behavioral Health and Recovery Services to support Latine youth and family mental health wellbeing, access to health services, and substance abuse prevention. Rae also supports authors at the spirituality-social change nexus through her consultancy, CreateWell, and facilitates innovation labs for teams engaging in equitable, scalable conservation at The Nature Conservancy’s Agility Lab. She is a trainer and strategist at Beautiful Trouble. As a first-generation American, Rae's Dutch, Israeli, Ashkenazi Jewish and Christian ancestry informs her work toward undoing racism and white supremacy. She is passionate about collective liberation, community healing, climate justice, and getting out on the coastal trails with her husky dog. Rae graduated from Barnard College at Columbia University, and received ordination by the Kohenet Institute.
